About Maasai Mara

The Maasai Mara National Reserve lies in Narok County in south-western Kenya, forming the northern end of the Serengeti–Mara ecosystem.

Each year, roughly from July to October, huge herds of wildebeest, zebra and gazelle move north from Tanzania's Serengeti into the Mara, crossing the crocodile-filled Mara River.

The reserve is named after the Maasai people, whose ancestral lands surround it, and the Mara River that runs through it. It is among the most celebrated safari destinations in the world for big cats and the "Big Five".
